Tagged... 16 things about me

I was tagged by Christina Phillips for 16 random things about me.... I'm not planning on tagging anyone in blogosphere though.

Here goes - sorry my life just isn't that exciting...

1. I recently fell asleep with my glasses on and broke one of the arms off.

2. I love wheat but should be wary of it…grrrr… though I did have a small slice of cheesecake today! yummm....

3. My study looks like a testing site for explosions.

4. I am a compulsive book buyer – I have so many unread books on my shelves just waiting ever so patiently for me to read them. Ever. So. Patiently.

5. My first crush: Elvis Presley. I was 4 when he died and I remember crying (my older cousin was a huge Presley fan).

6. I always have popcorn when I go to the movies – even if I’m full. I lurvvv me popcorn.

7. I'm a klutz – no secret to all those who know me. ☺ I have no co-ordination, which is why I like to write heroines that are athletic.

8. I love my Mac ☺.

9. Four years ago, someone told me I looked like I was 18. I was 31 at the time! OK, it’s nice to look younger but come on…. Thinking on it, I probably still dress the same as I was younger – jeans, t-shirts, trackies… I’m sooooo sophisticated.

10. I'm a TV, DVD, movie addict – Battlestar Galactica anyone? *Christina is getting ready to throw something at me because I informed her that the new BG DVD released was only part of season 4, not the whole thing*

11. I have foot-in-mouth disease. Brain, words and mouth don’t always co-operate.

12. I spend too much time reading blogs about writing than actually writing ☹

13. I love all sorts of music – currently listening to Greek music compilation. I listen all sorts of styles from classical to heavy metal.

14. I have hooked my 4 year-old godson onto AC/DC’s ‘It’s a long way to the top’ – he calls it the ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll song”.

15. My favourite fantasy squeeze would be someone who could shape shift from Gerard Butler, Clive Owen (I’ll have to fight Christina on that one), Hugh Jackman, Kevin Sorbo, Viggo Mortensen…. You get the picture!

16. I was once asked ‘how much?’ WTF? And no I wasn’t dressed in a provocative way; I was in fact, dressed as a Uni student in good old leggings and jumper carrying my backpack. LOL!

Oh and another one is that I like Inspirational quotes..... hence the pic!

Happy Holidays to you all

I hope you all have a day of merriment with loved ones
(whether you celebrate Christmas or not).

I have always loved the nativity scene - one of my favourite decorations we had under the Christmas tree was a plastic nativity scene and I would spend ages just looking at it. So I wanted to put a picture that depicted the true meaning of Christmas.

Some Greek  Christmas facts:
The common abbreviation for Christmas to Xmas is derived from the Greek alphabet. X is letter Chi, which is the first letter of Christ's name in the Greek alphabet.

The Greek name for Christmas is Christougena - literally Christ's birth. When Greeks say Merry Christmas, they say Kala Christougena

Catching up...and polishing

I'm continuing the polishing of my manuscript. It's a long, slow process but I'm at least moving forward. It will will be nice to finally let you know that it's ready for submission. *sigh*

I've also been quiet as I have been doing the shopping for Christmas, caught up with friends and family over the last few days. It has been really lovely. Though I haven't caught up with everyone I wanted to. That seems to happen - time slips away so quickly by the time you make the rounds, you have to start over again. Well at least that is what it seems like to me. :)

I'm way behind on my blog reading - I subscribe to a number of blogs and am falling way behind - and there is so many posts I want to investigate further. Thank goodness for readers, otherwise this would be an impossible feat. I have always had a problem with feeling tired with a computer screen and have really noticed it more in the past month. So hence my stop and starts. It's the way I seem to work. Though I have been a little behind of exercise *hangs head*. But 2009 is around the corner, so would like to establish a routine then. Remind me ok?!!

Also I'm disappointed to learn that Luna will not be published in Australia, so will have to get the US versions if if I want to read them or buy e-books. It was just so easy going to the local Target or Kmart store and having them available there or from the Australian Harlequin site. Too bad.

Yay for me....

I was pleasantly surprised today by two things.

Firstly, I was the lucky winner of not one but two of Nicola Marsh's books via the Desirabelles blog. So that's the first yay!

And the second yay is that one of the 50ks in 30 days ladies, Monique Wood awarded my blog with the 'I LOVE your blog award'. How flattering. Mon has a fun blog - need any Hugh Jackman pics and she's likely to have posted them. All in the name of  research of course. Or more precisely, inspiration As one of her readers, seeing those pics sure brightens up my day! Thanks Mon.

Seeking inspiration

Well have been busy of late with other commitments (including watching my precious godson at his Christmas show - so cute!) but also trying to polish the book. Slower than I expected but still going forward. And what helps keep me going - well having the reward of reading only one chapter of a book for every chapter I polish of my manuscript. The book of choice ATM is Anna Campbell's Claiming the Courtesan. Great read.....

I even entered the first paragraph competition that agent Nathan Bransford had on his blog. Didn't make the cut but that's cool. I did enjoy reading the 6 finalists work and there was a range of genre and style. What really surprised me was some of the narky comments people made. Nathan has left the voting up to the commentators on his blog and instead of supporting those who had become finalists, there were some 'well I'm not voting because I hated them' type comments. Well sorry, you don't like them, don't comment!  Sorry but it annoyed the hell out of me.

Pretty soon I will have to come up with my goals for 2009.  Eeeek!

But to help me delay...I mean inspire me, here are some things that I have come across on the net.

The next movie in the Terminator stories comes out in May, called Terminator Salvation with Christian Bale as John Connor. Woo Hoo!

From You Tube

SciFiGuy has the following video about book covers in the paranormal romance market field with the trend for tatts, weapons, and classic poses. Interesting - though the artwork is fantastic despite these 'trends'.

Also one of my favourite television series ever, Farscape, will be having webisodes made but no mention when.  Can't wait for that one.

Also lastly but not least is that fellow Bootcamper Hannah has SOLD two books to Harlequin Romance!!!! She will be writing under the name of Nikki Logan and her first book is due out January 2010. Can't wait! Check her out her fantastic website, A Romance with Nature
Fantastic Hannah, I mean Nikki!!

Website Update

Just been mucking around with my website. I've added a new page called 'The Agora'. Basically it's where I show my interests (well other than writing of course) such as books, movies and tv shows, and art. It's basic for now. I'll  improve as time goes  on.

Now to get back to polishing....

Library Thing

I'm a librarian by trade and while I tried Shelfari (which does have it's good points) I decided to return to Library Thing. It is free up to a certain number of books and then you have to pay a fee. But with the Lifetime Member Fee being USD $25, it's not so bad. I've just worked out how to make different widgets, which is something I wanted to do.

On the sidebar (those that get feeds, you'll have to go to the site to look), I have two widgets at the moment - one for Random Books from My Library, and Books currently reading. It's cool. And I don't need to keep up my own spreadsheet anymore as I can just catalogue on Library Thing. I add all books I've read this year - have alot more in the backlog of what I actually physically HAVE in my library and what I have borrowed from books. They have tags (keywords) and it's so cool - you can create your own. So I've got a tag 'My copy' and if I click that, it will show me what books are in my collection. My collection is here

Yes, I'm a book nerd and I freely admit it.

Blog of the day....

Barbwired... a writer's life in the city and the country: What personality type is your blog?

Blog analyser

Barbara Hannay had a post about what personality type your blog is.

It looks like we are the same. Yay for me because Barbara is just fab!

ESFP - The Performers

The entertaining and friendly type. They are especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present moment and don´t like to plan ahead - they are always in risk of exhausting themselves. The enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate confrontation - qualities that can make it hard for them in management positions.
