Writerly Wednesday ~ Words!

Words! I have some words! It's very exciting for this tired author who has been editing than writing in recent times.

It's not a lot of words I admit. It's the beginning of a short story and so far I know that a Wizard is asked to fill an unusual request. I'm going to work on it for the next few days.

I'm hoping this story helps turn the corner to free up my brain to write again. I've been thinking about a novel that I've got halfway done and maybe applying a plotting way of doing things to it. Just to see if anything again kick starts.

Maybe a set routine would help but long time readers of this blog, know how hard this had been for me over the years.

I find that each story responds to different processes. Some like being hand written, others straight into the computer, most want pantsing, some need a little pre-plot to start off with. I just go with the flow of what works. :)

I've been busy trying to rearrange my schedule and catch up on tasks. Things are happening and I want to thank my fellow bloggers in SARA and DSDU for helping to make my life so much easier. You're all gems!

Another thing I want to do is devote a little more time to the blog than I have done in the last six months of last year and well, January as well. It ended up in the 'will get to when I can' list, which is a hard list to get anything done on, so it has come to the 'do every fortnight' at least pile :) It's amazing how fast a fortnight can go past. I mean it's the 28th of January. Where did January go?

Anyone know?

Waiting rooms

I have been spending a lot of time in these lately:

Yep, waiting rooms. It seems to be the season of appointments for the family. I have five of them this week (last week was 4, the week before 3). Yep, crazy I know.

I have been making use of the time though - either writing or editing with pen and paper, or reading.

So how is my writing?
I'm glad you asked *grin*. Very well, thank you. I'm almost finished the Shadow novella's skeleton draft. And I've started editing the Gateway novella. And I'm having fun with both. Hard work, but fun! :) It's nice to write in a different length and have a couple of different stories floating about.

I'm still working on my other projects but as you can tell with appointment central, I have slowed down somewhat.

I've also been steering the Dark Side DownUnder blog - and we have our wonderful authors posting. So come along and have a look.

Oh and I have for some reason been getting up early but having naps during the day. It's embarrassing when you need a nap when you visit somewhere, but thank goodness people understand me and my CFS. Okay, have to go now. Another waiting room awaits!

Take care.

Time, time, time

I've been finding lately that time has been slipping through my fingers. I'm getting alot of writing related things done but then am falling behind in other parts of my life. Yes, the good old balance.

Lately I have been more tired and headachy, so am trying to come up with the best way to balance for me. I know I read a lot of blogs and love to comment on everyone's blog that I know, but realistically I can't do that all the time. At least I don't visit every site, I do use Google Reader to streamline. I'm also using TweetDeck for my Twitter and have to reevaluate people who I find interesting to follow but not as relevant to me and my writing.

Anyone say information overload?

Yep, there is that. I love information don't get me wrong. Heck, I wouldn't have worked in libraries for many years if I didn't. Because libraries are about information. But there is just so much out there.

I do like reading about how the publishing industry is going and it helps with the collation of my column in Hearts Talk massively. So I need to balance time on blogs with the information gained from there to give RWAus members the best info out there.

But writing isn't the only aspect in my life - there's family, friends, study, and other assorted things that I am aware that I don't spend as much time on being so exhausted. And CFS doesn't help - that needs to be looked after too - that way things don't overwhelm me.

So if you see that I don't come around the blogs as much as I have been, sorry. But I'll try to visit in my alloted times :))

Be well everyone. Happy reading and writing!!

Angel pic

Have had to get to some housework in the last couple of days. Visitors today, so nice. But brain can't now get into submissions mode. Will have to start afresh tomorrow. Was hoping some artwork would inspire me, but it isn't working right now. Oh well. Maybe I can get an early night's sleep. Ha ha ha ha ha.

Own background and June challenge

I have been playing around once again (yes, I know, I know) with the background of this blog. I wanted it to be a little bit more in line with my website, so I took the writing font of my website banner and tweaked it abit. I have been basically learning ad-hoc on Photoshop Elements. Must get some instruction on it.

So hope you like it.
And it's that time of the year again - the 50Ks in 30 Days which is in June. I'm joining in but have to be realistic with my time and energy, so I am aiming for 25K. The blog for this is up again here. Everyone is pumped, so I'm hoping all that positive energy will make its way down cyberspace to hit my little brain.

I have done some polishing this week - very slow process, and I've done about 3ooo words on a short story. I've enjoyed the difference between the two. HD is quest fantasy, while G is paranormal romance.

Just read: Kiss the night Good-bye by Keri Arthur

Not a morning person....

Yes, I love these dog pictures. They are so cute. And this so embodies me  in the mornings.

Well it can embody me at other times too. You see I don't write too much about my personal life here. It's meant to be a fun blog and it's about my writing. Still, I can share this - I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - my goodness, that was easier to write than I thought. Those who are nearest and dearest know about this already.

I've had it for years but was really affected by it three years ago and had to stop working. That was a real tough. Hence, my flash visits in cyberspace. Hence why you will find me at the computer at all odd hours as I do things in my time and with how I'm feeling for that particular day.

Now I can 'own it'. It's part of my life but it's not the only part of my life. Writing has really helped me a great deal. I work hard at it - just not in the same way as everyone else does or can. My routines suits me and I keep plugging away at it. And blogging has helped me too, believe it or not. It has helped me focus on my writing career. And that is what I am proud to call myself - a writer. I no longer think of myself as a librarian. I'm still qualified yes, but since I have been out of that environment for 3 years, it's time to say what I am - a WRITER - and damn happy to be  one.

So if my posts are not regular, you now know why. Thank goodness for the  internet - it has been my lifeline to connect with other writers (as well as the usual keeping in contact with family and friends).

Back to our regular scheduled programming...

Well I'm hopefully back to a normal routine starting today. More editing, writing etc.

We were blessed to be involved in a wonderful family Christening. Greek Orthodox Baptisms are a sight to see if you haven't ever seen one. Actually if you've seen 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding', you get the picture but with babies being immersed in a basin. If you are interested, you can learn more here and here.

It's been hot in Adelaide for the last couple of days, luckily we had beautiful weather on Saturday - there was a jumping castle much to the delight of all the kids. A fantastic idea really because they get bored easily. A few adults, including myself, had a go too (only to reinforce I have never really had any co-ordination!). Then there was a pinball machine, racing car game, and a jukebox. Need a good workout? - dance to Nutbush City Limits by Tina Turner. And  of course there was the glorious food. The sweets were my downfall. I don't have a huge sweet tooth (well other than chocolate) but I couldn't resist the assortment available. I think I needed the sugar rush after the preparations during the week.

So back to routine. I hope you have enjoyed the blogs I had prepared earlier. I like finding interesting things to share. Things that make me laugh especially. We all need laughter in our lives.

Yia!
