In the Cave: still limping along...

I've been in my cave the last few weeks - partly getting some editing done, partly dealing with ongoing head/neck aches, partly trying to slowly get rid of clutter (mostly on my computer), partly doing a workshop.

The editing had been put on hold for a little while as my iPad decided not to shut off or on. The Apple logo glared at me accusingly - of what, I do not know. Finally managed to restore it. So I can continue my editing on the iPad. I found that since the iPad is not where I usually edit, I can pick up errors easier there. So I'll be adding that to my rounds of reviewing in future.

I mentioned last post I am enrolled in the Self Publishing online workshop this month and while I have been reading the information and checking out the forums, I haven't been able to concentrate long enough to tackle the instructions thanks to the ongoing head/neck issues.  To say this is really annoying is an understatement. I have been looking forward to this workshop for months. I may not get the full benefit of the course until after it finishes but I'm looking at it at least instead of completely withdrawing.

However, I have taken a break from Facebook for a little bit. As much as I like seeing what others are up to, I'm finding I'm there haphazardly. Same with Twitter. I seem to mainly been on Goodreads at the moment because thanks to audio books especially, I'm still getting reading done. Also I think reading uses a different part of the brain than is needed for editing and for following instructions, so I can concentrate on it a little more. I'll be thinking about what is best for me with regards to social media. I may pop up there from time to time, but I'll probably be in my cave for the rest of the year still trying to get some work and rest happening.

Really that's it from me. I may no longer be fast at getting things done but I'm persistent - some would say freaking stubborn but at least I'm moving forward.

Be well. Yia!

Writing Update

I'm starting to feel more like a real author.

I have just received my first edits for Enchanted Realms, the anthology due for release on 29th June. Yes, for those who don't know much about the publishing industry - you read right,  first edits. Because it will go through at least another round. Don't worry, I'll keep you informed of the process. Think of it as my educational piece.

I have also filled out a cover brief and am waiting to see what the art department come up with! I may have other shorts published, but never have I had anything to do with covers. So it's quite exciting.

Other news is that the novella, Gateway to Hell, has been scheduled for release for 7th September 2012. So I will be able to enjoy this release fully without being in the middle of conference planning for the Gold Coast conference.

And finally, I have an Author page up on Facebook. So please come along and 'Like' me.

Life has been mad with family stuff and study now getting back into full swing, that I haven't been hanging around the social media circuit, other than to do the social media for the conference.

As for my goals for April - did I reach them? Um...sort of.

I entered one competition (not two), I looked over a short story but haven't started the edits yet, and I started the process to get my ITIN (got the Aussie part done).

So for May:

  • Finish edits for Enchanted Realms
  • Submit to short story anthology
  • Continue ITIN stuff.
  • Start a structural edit of my Shadow novella.

Fingers crossed!

SARA news....

It's been awhile since I talked about SARA on this blog....

Well some news is that the lovely Emmeline Lock is now going to be looking after the News page and already she's bolted out of the gate at high speeds, giving the page the vitality it needed.

I'll still be the webmistress.

Emmeline will also be looking after the Twitter page, because she is good with all this social networking stuff.

And we also have the lovely Tamara Gill on board, looking after our Facebook page. Thank goodness because I have no idea about Facebook. So look out for that. Hopefully we will have our own 'website' name soon for that....see what I mean, confused about Facebook. So if you are on Facebook, look for SARA - South Australian Romance Authors and 'like' us.

Come to the website and check it out. We have book covers, news, meeting topic list. And if you are in SA and interested in coming to our meetings, go to our Contact Us page, so you can register your interest.

Here are some of our covers....
