Border woes....

If you haven't heard the Borders group in the US have filed for bankruptcy with over $260 million owing to publishers. That's what I call a bad debt....

Not only is it Borders in the US, but in Australia, Borders/Angus and Robertson have gone into liquidation.

What an 'interesting' time to be part of the publishing world.

very scary times. Esp when trying to break into the bigger markets! *gulp*

It makes you wonder who's next, doesn't it? I sure hope this doesn't destabilise the rest of the book-selling industry. On the other hand, perhaps some of the independent bookstores can now fill the gap left by Borders/A&R.

Thanks Mel and Vanessa for stopping by. More learned people than me have posted (great post Vanessa) so I'm sitting here hoping that the publishing industry gets itself dug out of this hole.

Though maybe it's time to listen to what people want?
