Tim Burton Exhibition

Tim Burton: The Exhibition is being displayed in Melbourne at the ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) from June to October 2010.

So you can guess one of my stops when I'm in Melbourne.

He's the man who brought movies such as Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Sleepy Hollow, BeetlejuiceThe Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland to the big screen.

Such wonderfully imaginative pieces - yes  quirky and on the dark side - but great stories and wonderful cinematography.

I am so looking forward to seeing his artwork.  If I'm allowed to take photos I will.

Christina Phillips' blog party....Forbidden

To help celebrate the release of Forbidden, Christina Phillips's debut Roman/Druid Ancient Historical Romance from Berkley Heat, she's holding a launch party with lots of amazing authors and fabulous giveaways! In addition, Christina's giving away a signed copy of Forbidden to one lucky person who helps spread the love. All you have to do is mention the party (you can copy and paste this blurb), being held from 1st to 6th September at http://christinaphillips.blogspot.com

You can Tweet about it, blog, Facebook, MySpace or anything! And then drop her an email at ChristinapPh @ gmail dot com (no spaces) to let her know. Please put Forbidden Launch Party (or something similar) in the subject line. The winner will be drawn for that on Monday 6th September.

And if you'd like to also put the trailer up on your sites, please do!!! The YouTube link to embed is

Please do come along and support my writing buddy Christina! One of the sweetest people you will meet.

I'll also be part of the blog party - date to be announced - and while during this time I'll be at WorldCon, I shall be checking in with my iPhone! I'll be giving away a copy of the Little Gems Topaz Anthology, which has my cover design on it.

Hope to see you there!

And next week I'll be going again....

Yep, you read right. I thought I had mentioned this on the blog but apparently not -
I will be going to WorldCon or AussieCon 4 as it is called (as it's the 4th time held in Australia)!!!

I am really excited by this as I've never been to a Con before and this is one of the big ones. The program has just gone online and I intend to have a thorough look at it - 5 days of non-stop speculative fiction stuff!! How cool is that?

While there I hope to catch up with some of the Romance Writers of Australia Paranormal group members - Tracey O'Hara, Rowena Cory Daniells, Nicky Strickland, and Erica Hayes, and of course I'm looking forward to meeting many others. I've been out of step with the mainstream speculative fiction market so what a wonderful opportunity to delve back into it again. I'll be a sponge soaking up all the vibe from a corner. That might surprise some folks, but truly I can be quite shy.

While in Melbourne, I'll also be going to see Mary Poppins and the Tim Burton exhibition. I've got a very full on few days, and so I think sleep will be my priority when I return.

What a month!!

I'm back....

Yes indeed, I've been home since late Wednesday night. Always glad to be home, but I had a fabulous and really busy time in Sydney. I still  haven't sorted my photos or looked over my notes, but I have been busy catching up on things that have piled up here, as well as working on my submissions - I pitched to an editor and an agent at the conference, in which I  received partial requests from both. So fingers crossed for those.

It was absolutely wonderful catching up with my writing buddies, meeting online writing buddies, and just having a jolly good time being around fellow writers. The vibe at the conference was fantastic and I enjoyed all the workshops I attended and hearing our guest speakers. If you write romance, this truly is a wonderful weekend for the writer's soul.

One of the few photos I took with my iPhone - Coogee Beach

Ok while I'm away I thought I'd keep the blog going.

So it's linkity link today...

For those who like The Wheel of Time series, here's a link to some fan art. Bloody fantastic.

Here's a letter from Gene Roddenberry (all hail) about science fiction being about people.  That's probably what I love about the Star Trek franchise.

Check out these fantastic pictures from NASA.

And another picture of a shuttle passing the sun.

The New Scientist's best illusions for 2010 can be found here.

Check out this Fantasy Name Generator from the Seventh Sanctum. I got the name Belladonna Dragonguard - cool eh? You can go to other generators on the same site. I've refrained from spending hours on it --- yet!

and finally....

The next Chronicles of Narnia movie trailer - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Sunday, 8 August 2010

I'm counting down to the RWA Conference and after having a very busy few days hope to have a couple of rest ones before I got on the plane.  I'm starting to get a cold (oh no!).... so the First Defense has been started.

So I'll absent from reading blogs and posting anything new (though I have a few scheduled).

I thought I would leave you with these two great improvisations that was floating around some time back.

Enjoy!!! And I'll talk to you all when I get back.  Take care.

On the conference track....and where I am today

On the weekend attendees received their conference confirmation, and those that are doing pitches received their pitch times. Quite handy to know ahead of schedule. So you can guess what I have been doing?

No, not even a little guess? Oh come on...

Yes, that's right, I've been working on my pitch. One will be a group pitch and the other an individual one. I've done a  group pitch and while in one way you are nervous to talk in front of others, there was the sense that we were all in it together. But while last time there was about 10 people, this time it is 3.

So to everyone pitching, good luck.

As part of their annual conference, the Romance Writers of America held their awards on Sunday night (well Monday morning for us on this side of the world), and the Golden Heart and RITA winners were announced. Fantastic news is Kylie Griffin won her section of the Golden Heart. Go Kylie!! She is definitely a writer to watch. For the full winner list, please go here. There were other RWAus members including Elizabeth Rolls, Vanessa Barneveld, Kelly Hunter, and Brownyn Parry who finalled, so congratulations to you all.

Speaking of conferences, the Romance Writers of Australia conference is over a week away. I'm heading out on the Wednesday, a couple of days before the conference and I can't wait. During my stay, I will probably schedule some posts and blog using my iPhone when I can.

I will be attending a book signing event that is run in conjunction with the conference, but run by the Australian  Romance Readers Association. Plenty of fantastic authors including many RWAus buddies (Nikki Logan, Trish Morey, Tracey O'hara, Keri Arthur, Rachel Bailey, Anne Gracie, Paula Roe, Elizabeth Rolls, Erica Hayes, Helene Young, Elisabeth Rose, Denise Rossetti, Cathryn Brunet, Anna Cambpell....oh you might as well go see the whole list!!).

The ARRA have posted some author give aways. How cool is that?  For more about the event, check here.

Since I am talking about RWAus....Sandie blogged the monthly bookshelf list of books available from our members. Fantastic going everyone.

Today I am blogging over at the Romance Writers of Australia blog, again a craft topic, but this time Sprinting. And I'm blogging about Nikki Logan's UK novella release Seven-Day Love Story in New Voices at the Bootcampers blog.  What can I say about Nikki - she's on fire and is a fantastic new voice.

And check out my July reads over at Eleni's Library.

OK, that's if for now.
