Tired Thursday

It's been a hell of a frantic few weeks. I've been busy with family commitments, study and assignments, editing a manuscript for a competition (should be near its destination as we speak), and having a cold. Everything has fallen behind on other things, such as blogging. I've also put conference planning to the side to achieve what I needed to.

I'm almost on holidays. I have one assignment to hand in on Tuesday and then I have two weeks off. I will have assignments to do during that  time but I don't have to travel 45 minutes to campus.

And so from next week, I begin the tackling of things that have been put on the back-burner. Though, I started the catch up of sleep this afternoon. *grin*

In regards to writing, I want to achieve the following in April:

  • Enter two competitions
  • Get my ITIN (always gets shuffled to the bottom of the list)
  • Work on a short story for an anthology submission
I think that's an achieveable list.

The one thing that has suffered the most from my schedule the last few weeks has been reading. No sooner than I open a page, then my eyes close - I am that tired. So other than research, I've done little reading for me.

Research I've done has been on the typeface Broadway (just love this font), and artist/writer Shaun Tan.

My exercise routine has been shattered this past month, so I'm aiming April to be the month of setting this up again.

Wish me luck!

Super Sunday

I may be late but I'm here....

Busy, busy, busy is the title of my soundtrack at the moment, but I had some down time today and went to see a Fringe Show - the only one I've been to I might add, which is depressing, but oh, well - The Axis of Awesome. This is the third year in a row I've seen them, and I so needed the laugh. Some oldies, some newies, some variations. All in all a very great evening.

Here's one of the tunes, Can You Hear The F*& Music Coming Out Of My Car? -** so as you guessed, it's rated R for language use - so warning to those who are offended with swearing**

But it's hilarious - they have done the film clip to look like an actual pop music video clip.

And here is their clip for their most famous routine - the Four chord Song *again language warning*

Have a great week.

Stunning Saturday

I should know not to enter the kitchen to cook - helping my mum to make a Greek dessert called Yalaktobouriko, and burned my finger. Now have aloe vera on it and typing one-handed...oh, joy!

Have too much work to do, but will heed for the moment and let aloe do its thing.

Here is some hauntingly stunning work by Anne Stokes.

Just love this one....

Trailer Thursday - Lost Girl

Last year, I started watching a new TV series called Lost Girl.

Youtube link

Basically, Bo's a succubus who doesn't want to lose sides between the light and dark fae, as she's been on her own all her life. She tries to unravel the mystery of why her mother left her, and helps the fae with their problems. With the help of pickpocket Kensi (a human), she tries to make sense of this new world.

It's a pretty good paranormal series, and it has humour as well, which is always a good draw card. It's a Canadian production, and I believe it's been picked up for season 3, so that's good news.

Season 2 has started up on SciFi - too bad I missed the first two episodes in the season because I haven't been watching much TV lately.

Writing Buddy Wednesday ~ Rowena Cory Daniells

It's been hard to get any reading lately, but I managed to finish The King's Bastard by Rowena Cory Daniells.

I've admired Rowena's work since I read The Last T'En, and finally met her at a Romance of Australia conference three years back. She is a very smart lady who gives encouragement to her fellow authors, and it a very hard worker. I saw Rowena at WorldCon in Melbourne in 2010 and she was busily writing her next series, as well as promoting her just released series, The Chronicles of King Rolen's Kin.

Not only is Rowena a writer, but she is also a lecturer and mother to six children. I wonder where she finds the time to sleep. She's a DarkSider, and also has very interesting posts on her own blog and on the Ripping Ozzie Reads blog.

Her latest release was The Usurper, Book three of The Chronicles of King Rolen's Kin. I haven't made it to that book yet. Here's the blurb to the series....
"Cloaked in silent winter snow, the Kingdom of Rolencia sleeps as rumours spread of Affinity Seeps, places where power seeps up from the land’s heart.
Meanwhile, King Rolen plans his jubilee, unaware of the growing threat to those he loves."

There was a lot of intrigue and adventure in The King's Bastard, so I look forward to reading The Uncrowned King soon.

Aren't the covers just superb?!

Now, the next series for release sometime this year, is The Outcast Chronicles. Here is the blurb from Rowena's website:
"This series follows the fate of a tribe of dispossessed mystics, the T’Enatuath. Vastly outnumbered by mieren (people without magical abilities), the mystics are persecuted because the mieren fear their gifts. This persecution culminates in a bloody pogrom sanctioned by the mier King who lays siege to the Celestial City, last bastion of the T’Enatuath. When the city falls at great cost to both sides, the T’En leader negotiates their surrender and the mystics are exiled from their homeland.

A fantasy-family saga, the characters are linked by blood, love and vows as they struggle with misplaced loyalties, over-riding ambition and hidden secrets which could destroy them. Some make desperate alliances only to suffer betrayal from those they trust, and some discover great personal strength in times of adversity."

Another series of fantastic covers!

You can visit Rowena at her website and Ripping Ozzie Reads.

Here are the covers of her previous series - The Last T'En.

So if you are after a good fantasy read, pick up a Rowena Cory Daniells book!

Tuesday Tunes: Van Halen

Well, I've been under a rock because I didn't know Van Halen have David Lee Roth back!

Here is there latest song, Tattoo.

And now let us go back in time for a little bit of Eruption (with one of the best guitar solos ever) and You've Really Got Me.

I have seen Van Halen in concert but a time when it was after Sammy Hager left. The band sure has had a shaky history with it's lead singers, but gotta say, it's great to see Lee Roth back.

Normal programming

Remember my Manic Monday post? Well life has continued on that path. I'm hoping to return to a semi-normal pace this coming week.

And I am using my iPhone to blog as this was the only time I've had to think about it. This also means I'm way behind in my blog reading and commenting.

Now the great news is that DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER now has information on website and registrations are open. Please go to http://romanceaustralia.com for more details.
