Update.... writing and SGU

What have I been up to?

Writing, editing, reading & abit of resting in there too. As well as shock horror, trying to sort some things in the study when I need to get away from the computer.

So while I'm not up there with the numbers for the June challenge, I am getting things done. Including catching up my blog reading.

During which I came across this for you SGU fans. Preview of season 2 episode, due to air in October in the US, so hopefully we follow the trend and be only a week behind them with SciFi tv.

Spoilers involved - so look away now if you don't want to know.

Oh and check out what my latest reward book is over at Eleni's Library. Hint: it's my Anna Campbell. ;))

Blog pages and website

Well I have spent a little bit of time (not long) on adding pages to my blog - go Blogger with the new functionality. I decided to move things from the website - The Agora page of my interests (books, movies & tv, Art, and Music) to this site. Actually in the case of Books, see my Library blog.

So The Agora is gone and is replaced with a My Blogs page  and I changed my photo gallery to a slideshow (they didn't have this when I set it up on Go Daddy).

So am happy with that for now.

Oh and speaking of blogs - I will be conducting a seminar on the 20th November at the SA Writers' Centre on blogging for beginners. The title of the workshop is Put Your Blogging Gloves On! So please come along if you are in Adelaide and interested in starting a blog.

BSG: The Plan

Hi everyone (& especially to Christina whose ears would have pricked up at mentioning BSG).

Still struggling with my headaches, so the past week has been little work on writing. Though I have written some words and edited a chapter or so, as well as an article for Hearts Talk. Go me. Though my effort at 50k in 30 days (or in my case 25K) is not going well. I have a couple more weeks, hopefully I can gain some ground.

Today, I came home to find a package for me - & yes it was Battlestar Galactica: The Plan!! I entered a competition on the Showtime Channels website and won it. A real surprise.

Am really looking forward to watching it, but with BSG I need to have some brain cells to match up all the plots - so I'll wait until I feel better. Then again watching this could make me feel better. What to do? What to do?

I have been watching some sci-fi as I have been watching season 1 of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century on DVD. Bringing back some childhood memories.

I also finished reading Fallen by Lauren Kate. Really enjoyed it and it is a series, with the next book coming out in a few months. I have to make sure my library orders it ;) The danger of borrowing books from the library is that I don't get around to the hordes of them here waiting on my bookshelf.

Achy Breaky...

That's how I feel right now. I think what CFS does is tell me to slow down. I tend to push myself. Even now after all these years. I try and 'push' through things and sometimes it makes things worse. Right now, it's one of those up and down see-saw moments.

I got some work done early in the week (up) but nothing in the last couple of days (down). So I'm catching up on DVDs and a little bit of reading.  And surprisingly some ironing has helped me a little with my back.

Though I do feel like I'm on a bit of a loop when someone asks me how I am. Especially in person. And personally I hate saying I'm sore again. Even when I go to my physio and chiro for treatment.

Am I really that person who never shuts up about their health? I suppose it's a part of me and part of the package, but still....

And with physical pain and tiredness comes the emotion of it all & what's happening with the people around you, the world around you.

I'd love to wave the magic wand and make everyone's aches and pains go away, whether it's physical or emotional.

Be well everyone......

Flash Fiction accepted...and other bits & pieces

Some good news this week.

My flash fiction story The Bucket has been accepted by the online Australian SF magazine, Antipodean SF and will be in the November issue.

It was my first SF story and I had fun writing it. I'll let you all know when it's available for viewing. In the meantime go check out this site for flash fiction for the SF and Fantasy markets!

In other news, after a good two day start, I haven't gone well at all with the June Writing Challenge. So I took a breather and watched Supernatural season 4 on DVD (thank you library!). Nothing like the Winchester boys for a little pick me up :)  and hello Castiel. I really enjoyed the adding of the angels in this season & like all the season cliff-hangers, the boys are seriously screwed.....

And check out this kid's talent on the drums as well as the rocking facial expressions!

Rock on!

The iPad

Sick of hearing about this already? Well then don't read on.... *grin*

On the weekend, a friend and I checked out the iPad. Initially we couldn't get near it. But then a gap opened up and I swooped in. Now I'm not usually a swooper. I'm the type of person who lets others get in front of me and smiles. Not this time. Well there was on time restrictions for one, but I'd been waiting and sometimes being nice = being take advantage of.

So I saw the iPad & you know I'm already a Mac convert, so it was no surprise I would love it. It's a bigger version than the iPhone or iTouch, so already I was dealing with something semi-familiar. The touch screen is fantastic, the size just about right for travelling or carrying around, & the colours just gorgeous.

iBooks looks fantastic & would be great for the e-books I get - colour woohoo! I'm new to e-books and usually only buy things that are available in e-book format only e.g. Nocturne Bites. I'm a tactile person so I love holding a paper book. It is a rewarding experience, but I can see myself going more the e-book route especially with books that I enjoy but don't necessarily need on the keeper shelf - because let's face it my shelves are overflowing.

I suppose the thing about e-books is that you have to keep up with the technology. Otherwise will you be able to read them in 5 or 10 years? It's something I learned during my time as a librarian. Technology changes, format changes = expense. The printed book has been around for so long and the experience of going into a real life store is one I enjoy, so I don't think I will give that anytime soon - actually I don't think I will ever give it up.

And the other thing about e-books, you can't loan them out unless you loan out your whole device. Sorry but that isn't going to happen.

Back to the iPad.....
So while I fell in love with it, my friend thought it was nice but that's it. Hey, I get that. She like me, loves the experience holding a real book.

Having had my iPhone for a little while now, I can say I love touch screens where before I was dubious. Oh yeah, sometimes they can be a pain but on the whole I get along with my iPhone. So I think the iPad is something I would use. I have an iMac and instead of getting a MacBook, the iPad may the way to go. Of course more research needs to be done - ie. visiting the store again and again *grin*

However, there is the price and the two options... the one with wi-fi only; and the second one with wi-fi and 3G connectivity (which of course is more). Those costs have to be factored in and so while I would love to grab one, realistically it will be some time yet. I've got an EeePC and can take that when travelling for writing. I don't use it for emails etc, but then again I have my iPhone.

So do I really need the iPad? Not now. But it is on the wish list. *grin*

Update on June challenge: 866 for day 2. Hey do blog posts count? *wink*
